God created everything that exist and put it in place. He set up natural laws that govern all of His creation. All things must follow the laws of gravity, nature, and physics. Nothing or no one has any choice wether to follow all that God has set up except man. God gave man choices when He created him. He let the man call the animals whatever he would name them. Then God set up man's place to live. Then God gave the man a companion. So much like God we were created to be.
Genesis 3:2-5 NASB
2 The woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; 3but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’” 4 The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! 5 “For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
But Satan tempted man and twisted the words of God and confused the woman. Look at the tempter said to her.
1. Satan questioned what God had said.
2. Satan added to what God had said.
3. Satan temped Eve with a short cut to being "like God."
God's intent all along for man was to be "like" Him. We were designed to be with God and to spend time with Him. We were supposed to make decisions "like" God. We were in God's image already and we as mankind were "like God."
Now the matter os good and evil is something else. Evil was unknown except for Satan. Man had no evil in him for He was created by God perfect. But the choice to disobey God brought evil to man by his own choice.
We can choose today. Good or evil. Obedience or our way is what man can still do. And yes we can and do know good and evil. We often become very confused about what it good or evil. We even debate about what is ok and not ok in the site of God.
But it is simple, yes so simple, faith and belief in God, His love, His provision in Jesus Christ for us is Good. When we choose to try our own way it is evil. When we choose Jesus we must choose to be "like" him.
Ephesians 5:1
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
Being "like" God is not gained with any physical thing like fruit, fame, or fortune. Being like God is all about being full of love, and serving others. When we are good we are like God. Knowing what is good is all important. And here is why it is so simple. God is Good.
