When I was a kid we used to play a game called "I Spy..." The game was simple. You would describe something one clue at the time and the others would try to guess what it was you were looking at. You might start like this: "I spy something green." The guesser would say, "Is it the tree?" Then the guesser can ask a question. Like, "Is is bigger than a bread box?" And then the guesser guesses until they either give up or guess the right thing.
This morning I am sort of playing this game backwards with my blog post. I am going to tell you some things I am thankful for and I want you to look to see if you see them in your life today. I would like to suggest that you not only look for them, but think about why you are thankful for them. Maybe as you see some of these items your attitude about how wonderfully blessed you are might be realized today.
So I will start...
I AM THANKFUL FOR...
Tap Water...
A good cup of coffee...
A comfortable chair...
A way to stay in touch with others...
The Word of God...
My wife...
My Children...
My Home ...
That was easy. I think you have got the hang of this little exercise of the brain. Let's do some that are a little harder, but just as real. You cannot see these unless you look real close at your own heart. You may have to think about a few of these for a few minutes. Don't strain your brain doing this little exercise, but do open your heart a bit wider.
I AM THANKFUL FOR...
A smile from someone I care about...
Values I hold dear....
Love that I give....
Love that I receive...
Faith in a God who cares for me...
Being able to think clearly....
Being able to pray....
The Death of Jesus Christ...
The Resurrection of Jesus Christ...
You ....
I have listed 18 items to be thankful for in this short blog post. To have a thankful heart is so important to life. Some were simple and some complex. But this is what God's Word says:
1 Thessalonians 5: 16-17 NASB
16Rejoice always; 17pray without ceasing; 18in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
I spy was a kids game. Giving thanks is a command from God and very serious way of life. The alternative to thankfulness is biterness. Take time to think about this and see where you are in life.
