Today is a day like most other days in February 2017. We are fast running out of winter this year and we are soon going to be in the third month of this year. Maybe it is time to take a quick look at our work for God so far this year? That would likely lead to this question, "So what are your plans to serve God today?"
A look to the Scripture in Luke chapter 22: 39-46 we find the Lord asking his disciples to pray so they would not be tempted. Jesus had already revealed much to them and told them that it was a critical time. And so he ask them to pray. But we see in these verses that instead of praying they were sleeping. Will you be? Are you? Spiritually sleeping? Will you his the snooze button again today?
Then just a few verses later when confronted by the Roman troops In this same chapter in Luke, verses 49-56, We see an eager disciple quick to take matters into his own hands to execute judgement on the Romans Soldiers. Peter cut off an ear, but the Lord said no. Peter struck out at what he did not understand. So do we. We are quick to judge and condemn others for the things they are doing or going to do, and forget that the Lord knows our hearts and loves us despite our sinfulness. He keeps loving, healing, and waiting on us to say yes to Him and follow His plans.
There are few who really serve the Lord in this chapter 22 of the book of Luke, but there is one. If you go back to verse 7 of Chapter 22 your will find a man who is doing a simple daily task. He was carrying a jar of water. But when approached with a need that Jesus had He set up the Passover meal for the Lord. We don't even know his name but we know he served the Lord.
We are quick to stay out of others business thereby sleeping away the day the Lord has made. We are quick to judge others as sinful and getting what they deserve in their situation, but how many of us as we do our daily task are quick to serve others even when it cost us? And when we serve, it seems we are wanting to make sure it is noted in our Facebook files so others can recognize us and give us praise for what we are doing. So are we really doing our service to God from our of love for the Savior or to catch a blessing from others? Which will you do today, Sleep, Strike, or Serve.
