Have you thought about the law lately? I mean you mostly know some of the law. Let's start with a simple one. The law of gravity. You do not think about it much, but you live with it. You realize that without this law set up by God there would be absolute chaos and nothing could exist like it does. What makes it work? And who enforces this most basic of laws? Why God does of course. He makes the sun come up in the morning and the stars twinkle at night. We know the properties of water, oxygen, and a thousand other substances and compounds that God has created and His laws keep them the same day in and day out. He set up all the laws and He does not change them.
Another law you might give thought to this time of year is the laws of nature. We know that spring time is coming soon. We already can see some buds on trees, and jonquils are already poking their stems up through the ground. We look so forward to the yellow dust coming again. Well, maybe not that part part called pollen, but I assure you that if the Lord does not return between now and April there are some yellow days ahead. So we must accept the law no matter if we like it or not.
The things or laws we can observe tell us something very important, and we should be considering these things. The laws first tell us that God is in control of all things. Our observations also tell us that God has time frames on all things. He will control all things and deal in time with all of His creation and that includes you.
Today's devotion from Oswald Chambers (Feb 12) got me thinking about this idea of the law. You see we do not think about laws sometimes. We just ignore them. Only a very few know the tax law of the USA but all of us do file taxes. We abide sort of by what we have to do to get by. We do not study the law unless we are an attorney and even then they specialize because the law is so complicated and it seems no one can know the entirety of the law. But yet we hear from a child that ignorance of the law is no excuse. The law of nature apply to you and so do the laws of the land. But there is more. God has set up Spiritual Laws too.
So what is God's law? Years ago there was a gospel track that I learned that stays with me. But I am afraid that many have forgotten these important "Spiritual Laws." Some maybe don't know them or maybe some just choose to ignore them. Here they are.
Law # 1 - God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life.
You may not realize this and you might even deny it, but it is true. He loves you, created you, and yes He has plans for you.
Law # 2 - Man is sinful and separated from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God's love and plan for his life.
We all make mistakes and we all violate and ignore God's law but do not forget law # 1 - He loves you. Because He is a good and loving God He is willing to forgive you. But the law is that because of our sinfulness we are separated from God. He has a plan that He has made into the Law of Redemption for all of mankind. He took our punishment for sin. Jesus Christ did this on the cross.
Law # 3 - Jesus Christ is God's only provision for man's sin. Through Him you can know and experience God's love and plan for your life.
Such a simple law but so, so, many live life ignoring this law. Ignorance is no excuse, but willful disregard and avoidance of this law is evil. The law of God is sure and complete and the sacrifice of Jesus is the way God set up for people to be restored into an ongoing relationship with Himself.
Law # 4 - We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know and experience God's love and plan for our lives.
These Four Spiritual Laws should not be ignored nor overlooked. We must live by this law. We will give an account one day. So Consider the Law.
