With the 4th of July Holiday week end in our immediate future we are naturally going to give a little thought to the fore fathers of our country and the signing of the great founding document of the Declaration of Independence. I find it interesting that most people today think this was the beginning of the Revolutionary War, but the reality is there had been fighting between the American Colonies and the British going on for over a year when the historic document was signed.
John Adams was one of the great leaders of the movement towards independence, and He wrote to his wife that July the 2nd would become a great day of celebration in America because this the the day the unanimous vote was taken to declare the 13 colonies independence from the King of England. But the document was actually signed on July the 4th and this moment of putting the ink on the paper has become the day we honor.
But let me get you to think about another moment that should be celebrated in your life. Your personal Declaration of Dependence on God. Have you made such a declaration? When you realize that you are powerless in your own power to have a relationship with God. There is nothing you can do to forgive your own sinful and shameful ways, and you go to God in your heart and declare that He alone is God and that you are dependent on Him for life and for your salvation this is a moment to celebrate. It is the moment you are born again. Do you remember it well, or not? Have you declared your dependence on God publicly? Have you signed on the dotted line so to speak by going through the waters of baptism?
Maybe you need to declare your dependence on God today? Without God's mercy and grace we would cease to exist in an instant. It is by His hand and will toward us that we live and breath. We are dependent on Him for all things And when realize this truth it is worth a celebration daily.
