Today is Memorial Day a special day in the life of our nation. Memorial day is not National BBQ Day nor is it National beer drinking day. It seems that due to the position of Memorial Day on the calendar, people tend to neglect to rememeber our fallen heros because of the percieved need of starting the summer. Is the the need to start the summer as important as the people who have given their lives in pursit of freedom. This is not what anyone would say or even dare to think, but just the reality of what people do.
But in a way, being able to enjoy freedom is a tribute to the many who have given themselves to protect and preserve freedom for all of us as a nation of free people. To honor the fallen is a joy and a responsibility of all Americans. It is true we have to teach children who do not know of war about the sacrifice of those who have served us. We must have a Memorial Day. We must make sure of its integrity.
How do we do it? How do we honor those who have given their lives? Prayer for their family is a good place to start. Thankfulness in your heart is a good follow up. Respect for our country and our political process is another.
I may not agree with everhting our government is doing or has done but disrespect and slander will not fix it. This day, Memorial Day is a day that needs more emphasis in all of our lives to give the honor due to those who make it possible.
