When we celebrate St Patrick's Day what is going on? St Patrick is in the Catholic Church the Patron Saint of Ireland. He was a real person who lived around 400 AD. When this British -Yes! British man- was about 16 years old he was taken captive by the Irish and was enslaved for about 6 to 10 years in Ireland. He escaped and after entering the church as a priest he became a missionary. He felt the call to go back to the ones who had enslaved him and worked in northwestern Ireland.
Another interesting thing I have read is that was the original color of St Patrick's day was blue. Of Course Green, and especially Green Beer are a part of what most think of for St Patrick's Day. Few would think about what St Patrick really did instead many would say he ran all the snakes out of Ireland. How far things can come from where they start and everyone accepts it.
St Patrick was a missionary bringing the Gospel to a heathen nation. Can we celebrate the Good News of Jesus Christ Today and seek to have the missionary spirit to take the Gospel to those who are enslaved?
Have a Great Day - Wear Green - and when someone comments on it tell them it is honor of a missionary.
