  • Scotty Davis is a Mission Consultant, a Biblical Counselor and a Police Chaplain. Scotty is married to Kathy since 1974 and they have 4 children.
Isaiah 49:6 tells the prophet he is to be a light to the nations, and so should each of us that know the grace of the Lord. This is indeed the greater task to which we should aspire. Isaiah was shortsighted and thought he was only a minister to the Hebrews but God said that task was ...Too Small A Thing... and that He would be a witness to the enitre earth. And so he wrote a book we read 2700 years later.

Well Drilling Is an Art

Img_0069When AI signed up to become involved in well drilling I really did not realize the depth of the information that would have to become mine to even get started in this huge work. Water is one of the most precious things we have and not to have it causes sickness and many other problems in third world countries.   The UN Millennium  Project  Goal  7 Target  10  says:  Target 10. Halve, by 2015, the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. That is a huge Goal Set by the United Nations. We have become involved in learning to drill wells to help achieve this goal. Not that Mission Team Inc is adopting all UN Goals but our goals are to enable churches to be on Mission for God. If a mission of God and one of the United Nations is the same we will work with them. Check out the web site www.goal7.org

New Tires for Making New Friends

Scotty_on_motorcycleI saved some Christmas gift money for today and I will buy me and my bike a gift with it. New motorcycle tires. That is not a glamor gift but it is very needed as the tires on my bike are slick as the top of my head. I love to ride and it will not be but a week or two and I will be on the bike more than in the truck. I look forward to some rides with friends and making new  friends on the road. One of my good friends that you might want to get to know on the internet is Hawk Hagebak. Hawk is a Cobb Police Sargent and a good friend His web site is called Motohawk. There are tips on riding and just some good stuff on his site. This month he writes about some strange folks he has met on the road and about when Steve Gilner was honored for his ultimate sacrifice for the Cobb PD. Check it out but I warn you it is rated PG.  Motorcycling is a great sport and one that is growing among the 50 + crowd. If you do decide to get a bike get some good training. Make sure to get good equipment, and above all things take it easy, especially if you have slick tires.

Yipeee

I praise the Lord for so many of you who read and support me in the ministry God has given me. I appreciate your reading this column also. I have been a little slow in writing the last two weeks but I want to tell you why.
Back in 2004 I started working on a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Southeastern Seminary In Wake Forest NC. I worked great for the first year then bogged down as Mission Team Inc became a reality. I have now officially been granted an extension till the  end of this year and I must finish the task. I will be pumping out some work on this important final step in what has seemingly been a lifetime of education. My degree is in Biblical Counseling and this is an extremely important issue in the world today. If you are interested I have uploaded a link here to my paper on Biblical Counseling

If you take the time to read it send me your comments. to scotty@missionteaminc.com I would love to hear from you.

Preaching and Wandering

Toon88I have been known to wander a bit when I preach, but then I wander a bit when I do a lot of things. I hardly ever take the same path home when there is another road I can drive. I always need a break from my work so I wander around the house to find something else to do for a minute. I wander in my thoughts sometimes. Sometimes where I should not go. When I do....I need some good preaching. You know I do hear good preaching from time to time on the internet or at my church or even from my wife. The best preaching however comes when I preach to myself. Even if I am on the run. Even if I am wandering, when I realize my faults that I am off track and preach (most of the time silently in my mind)  (I Don't want you to think I am Crazy) to myself back to get on track, I get there. We must realize our own responsibility before  God and not expect others to put  up electric fences  or  set  rules to keep us in line self  discipline is the real mark of someone maturing in Christ. We are all prone to wander ...as the song says, prone to leave the one I love. I am always up for preaching but I (the wanderer) am my number one target in preaching and you know it works. Sometimes I listen.

An Unknowing Cookie Thief

Icon_oreoLast night I had a funny experience. Kathy and I went to visit police officers who are forming a new football team (that is not the funny part). These guys are serious about football. On the way home, I wanted to stop and get some Oreos. I seem to have a strange addiction to the big Os. I went into the store and saw a friend in line at the cashier and went by and made some comment about her money was no good -- joking with the friend and the cashier and then had a brief conversation. I got my Oreos and returned to the same line. My friend was gone but the cashier smiled as I put my big Os on the register and she rang them up. The lady in front of me now had a basket full and was just concluding her transaction as I came up. The bag boy was finishing loading her cart with 10+ bags. The cashier ask me "Do you have a Kroger card?" "Yes, in the truck", I answered. "It might save you a few cents," smiled the cashier. The lady in front of me still had her wallet open and said, "You can use mine" and handed it to the cashier. I said "thank you" and she put it in her wallet and turned to leave. The cashier then looked at me and said...

Election Day Comments

Hillary_5                          Mccain_2

Huckabee_2
Obama_2
Romney_2

One of the above will very likely become the next president of the  United States. It is remarkable to think about and exciting beyond belief no doubt for the ones involved but it is all so important that four of them will soon be former presidential candidates.  That is a title with which no one likes to be labeled.  But along with  the  loser  will be millions who wanted their  candidate to win  but yet  they will have the other  guys president. This blog only has a few minutes validity as it will soon be know who is dropping out of the race.
The reality is all of these folks are good and successful  people  or they would not have gotten as far as they have  to be on the ballot for Super Tuesday. Will we get a surprise tonight? Probably not but there is still hope alive in Five people as the polls close at 7 PM. I voted for the evangelical choice Mike Huckabee and am very glad I did so. I have pondered a question though. If Huckabee would have dropped out would I have voted for Romney or McCain?  I honestly do not know and am glad I had Huckabee as a choice. Way to hang Mike. When the General election comes in November I will have a choice between just two and It will not be hard to decide I do not think. By what the polls are saying it will likley be McCain agaist whoever. I will be OK with that although it is not my first choice. But then anyway you cut it up a majority will not get their first choice. So we will as civilized and free people by process of elimination narrow it down and get our next president. I pray for God's blessing for all of us as we go through this process.

Kids Pictures

I am making the final preparations for tonights MTI Banquet and I have been going through some children's photos to  end my presentation with and they really do tell the story  of why I do mission  work. They are beautiful children and while they have so little in life if they come to to know Jesus they have every thing they will ever need. Click on the photo to make it bigger. Then stop and pray about what you can do to help children who need Jesus.
